Digital Marketing in 2024: Debunking Lies, Revealing Truths, and Achieving Real Results

Digital marketing has been advertised as a must-have strategy for businesses since the internet became popular. Now, with the rise of Artificial Intelligence (A.I.), it's clear that businesses need to use it even more to succeed.

But with so much noise from marketing agencies, gurus, and experts, how do you know what to use in your marketing today to get the best results?

Uncovering the Lies of Digital Marketing

Many business owners, like you, have thought about or tried digital marketing. Some hire experts, and others do it themselves.

But the question is, has it always worked well for you? And if you find yourself hesitating to implement digital marketing, what worries you about it?

Digital marketing can be powerful, but it doesn't always work perfectly. It needs the right setup in your business to be effective. Many people worry because they aren't sure if it will bring the results they want.

So, why do business owners sometimes believe it will always work or feel unsure about it?

Let's go through the lies.

Why is it a lie?

  1. The Big Promises from Marketing Agencies, Gurus, and Experts

You’ve probably seen ads where people say things like, “Get 10 clients or you don't pay,” or, “This ad strategy has made me over $1,000,000 in revenue.”

Why is this false? These are just marketing plans. A plan alone can't guarantee success. To be successful in marketing, your whole business needs to work together.

From paid ads to how good your sales team is, everything in your business must work together for a marketing plan to succeed. These big promises can make you think success will come quickly, but they don't show the real work needed in your business to make it happen.

  2. Your Marketing "Experts" Aren't the Real Deal

Many so-called marketing experts have only taken a course on Social Media Marketing Agency (SMMA). They were told that running a digital marketing agency is the best way to work 2 hours a week and earn a lot of money. These "experts" are told to find new clients every day and make deals, even if they’ve never done marketing themselves.

What's worse, the people teaching these courses promise huge returns, making it seem like an easy path to success. They choose this route because it looks simpler than actually learning the real skills needed to help businesses succeed.

These "experts" might tell you to start running ads on Facebook or follow the latest "best strategy" (like A.I.) that their teachers recommend. While it's good for people to try and succeed, it becomes a problem when they don’t have the right information or skills. This leaves business owners like you with false hopes about what it really takes to succeed in digital marketing. What’s worse is that you are taking all the risks based on the claims of someone who may not really know what they're doing.

    Does that seem fair?

The ONE Thing for Your Digital Marketing Success

So what do you need to create your digital marketing success?

After spending multi 6-figures on ads and generating over 30 million in revenue combined for businesses, I’ve learned that what separates the greats from the rest of their industries isn’t just having a great offer, running ads on Facebook, or using the latest strategy.

The ONE factor that makes them the greats of their industry is they have a trackable and predictable business.

They know what to track in their sales process to understand:

  • How well their leads are converting at each stage in their journey

  • What systems and processes need to be added or optimized to get better results

  • What gaps need to be fixed to ensure they are getting a higher conversion rate for their business

It isn’t about using the next “recommended” strategy but rather using a strategy that helps you fix your gaps to increase the overall efficiency of your sales process.

It could be having a better offer, using paid traffic, or even using an A.I. virtual assistant to book and follow up on more calls for you.

But to do this first, you need to have a clear process map of how your business actually looks and know what you should be tracking at each stage of your customer journey (sales process)!

Process Mapping

So how do you build your process map so that you can have a trackable and predictable business? (I recommend getting started with process mapping using draw.io (free mapping tool))

To get started, map out what your current customer journey looks like:

  1. Identify where your leads are currently coming from (traffic source).

  2. Identify the key stages your customer has to go through to get to the sale.

  3. Identify the automations that are currently in place.

  4. Identify the processes that are being implemented at each stage of your customer journey.

  5. Identify what you are currently measuring (from lead generation to the effectiveness of automation, to the effectiveness of a process, etc.).

Once this is done, copy the entire sequence and create the customer journey that you want to have.

In this stage, you can add in:

  • Things that you should start tracking

  • Automations and processes that you want to add or optimize

This map will be an important tool to help inform any discussion on how to grow your business and what strategies you should be implementing or actions you should be taking to optimize current processes.

Conclusion

Digital marketing can be tricky, but it's not just about following the newest trends or believing what some "experts" say. To do well in digital marketing, you need to know how to keep track of what’s happening in your business.

Before you start any new strategy, it’s super important to understand how to track your results. Knowing this helps you see what’s working and what’s not.

Making your business successful means planning carefully, watching how things go, and changing what you do to make things better. It’s not about quick fixes or believing big promises; it’s about taking your time and doing things right.

So, remember, if you want to be good at digital marketing, you need to learn how to track your progress and always look for ways to improve. This way, you can make your business grow and achieve real success!
